FDC (Fire Department Connection)

Fire Department Connections (FDCs) are the access points for firefighters to supplement additional water to a building’s fire sprinkler system during a fire. This fire system connection is most commonly found on the exterior of commercial buildings. In the event of a fire, local fire departments will use the FDC to supply water to the fire hose. Fire hose are usually 2 ½” in diameter. FDCs or Fire Department Connections are only part of the essential piece to a complete fire protection system.

Double Detector Check Assembly (Backflow Preventer)

Double Check Detector Assemblies are designed to prevent backflow of non-health hazard substances from city water lines into the fire protection system of a building. DDCA’s or Double Detector Check Valves are also known as “Backflow Preventers”, which are more commonly understood throughout the construction industry. Double Detector Check Assemblies can be found above ground, exposed and usually gated or protected by a cage or metal enclosure. These assemblies are critical to keeping the fire protection system sanitary in the event of a fire.

Excavation and Backfill

Along with the utilities that are found onsite, excavation is required to lay the foundation of the fire protection systems to the building. Underground consists of C 900 PVC Piping and Ductile Iron connections. Fire Sprinkler Companies will usually provide point of connection as far as the connection to the city lines.
